MOLD REMEDIATION – A PROFESSIONAL BUSINESS

Mold remediation has become a professional business these days. The contractors carry ing out this work are usually called in when mold has become a huge, widespread, recurring problem.

Confidence in these professional mold remediation people is strengthened when we know that they use quite an assortment of tools and gadgets , just like any tradesman has, to accomplish their job of containing, killing and removing the mold, then protecting the area from any future breakouts.
The tools used include the following –

Moisture Meter – Pinless type, or with a point or pin that can measure surface moisture or moisture within timber etc.

Humidity Guages - Guages how much moisture around mold outbreaks.

Borescope - A camera at the end of a flexible hose, for those hard to get into places.

Digital Camera - Helps to document findings and proper assessments.

Thermographic Camera Helps further reveal whats within structures where moisture may be entering.

DeHumidifier - Helps to get rid of humidity

PPE - Yes, that’s Personal Protective Equipment, like
Respirators, gloves, safety suit, & eye protection.

So, as you can see, we can be assured that, like most tradesman, mold remediation professionals come well prepared for the job. Of course, it is recommended that we check them out thoroughly, as best we can, like we do any tradesperson we may hire.

MOLD REMEDIATION - NEEDED TO PREVENT HEALTH ISSUES

One of the most important reasons why we need mold remediation, is because mold can cause health issues. How so?

Well, it seems that mold has been an irritant to some and has triggered allergies in others. For instance, mold can irritate the eyes, the nose and lungs. Usually though, it is only large formations of mold that have these sorts of health effects.

It has been said also that health problems associated with high levels of airborne mold spores can also result in – the irritating of the throat, sinus congestion, periods of asthma together with other respiratory ailments.

These conditions will escalate and be more serious if the persons immune system is compromised. Mold Remediation will eliminate these extra, unwanted health problems.

There can also be Hypersensitivity from mold caused particularly by the direct exposure to inhaled mold spores. These spores can be dead or alive. This can lead to allergic asthma and allergic rhinitis, and rhinorrhea (persistent watery mucus discharge from the nose as in the common cold), and even hypersensitivity pneumonitis. This usually comes from inhaling spores or fragments in an occupational setting. It has been predicted that about 5% of people will have some airway symptoms due to allergic reactions to molds in their lifetimes.

So, I’m sure you’ll agree that there is a need to employ mold remediation if we have a mold problem, so as to eliminate these extra health issues that we or our family could do without.

MOLD REMEDIATION – WHAT DOES IT MEAN ?

Instead of mold remediation, would it not be easier to just say – ‘how to get rid of mold”?
Probably. However when using the word, remediation, a lot more is involved here than just getting rid of mold. Yes, there is a lot to think about when we talk about mold remediation.

First of all, I am sure all of us understand what mold is (spelt “mould”, by some).
We know we have a mold problem when we see a dark formation of it starting to appear on an area of ceiling or walls in our home, office etc. Actually, to scare you a little, mold is a type of fungus that breeds and spreads and can result in health issues. So, it is no wonder then, that when we see mould, we usually take action to remedy the situation by wiping it off. But is just wiping it off – mold remediation ?

Well, maybe it is, and maybe it isn’t.
For instance, if our mold situation is small, and we can determine ourselves how to get rid of it without it returning, by stopping the source of moisture that enables the mold, then yes, we have successfully accomplished – mold remediation.

However, what if our mold problem is huge, maybe a whole room is infected with it, and nothing we do remedies the situation. Then we need a mold remediation professional who will come and identify the source of moisture, remove the mold itself and give advice as to further steps you can take, and if you agree will provide the means to totally remove the mold problem for good. This is mold remediation on a large scale.

So, the question is – Can you fix it yourself, or,
Do you need the services of a professional?

There are other questions too that need an answer.
Questions like –
Why is it important we get rid of mold?
How to be sure the mold has been controlled, removed, and won’t return?
What are some tips or tricks to get rid of it if you do it yourself?
